If you'd like to direct a domain address that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain address being redirected loses all its records (A, MX, and so forth) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain address it is redirected to. This way, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be redirected to the website that you've set up, but it will also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all of the traffic from various subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting provider by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain because this kind of a record set up for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting plan from our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you just a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with every single plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. If you've never added this type of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have set up a site through another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you wish to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Managing DNS records usually appears to be a challenging task to people with less experience, but the Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every semi-dedicated plan that we offer, is extremely easy to use. If you need to create a CNAME record for any purpose, all you have to do will be to choose the domain or subdomain that you need, select the type of record, that will be CNAME in this case, then type the value i.e. the domain or subdomain you are forwarding to. The process is quite simple and you can set up the record in the DNS Records section of the CP. Within the hour the new record is going to be fully active and within several hours it's going to propagate around the world. If you're not sure what you should do, we've prepared a detailed help article and a short video tutorial on how to go about creating a CNAME record and they are both located in that same section of Hepsia. Needless to say, you can also get in touch with us for assistance anytime.
